san diego
For spring break, my family decided to go to San Diego to tour some schools. It ended up being such an amazing trip. I got to see some colleges, and we also had lots of time to explore the area (and eat some good food)!
On Thursday, we toured UCSD. This school is amazing. The campus is really nice, the location doesn’t get much better, the people I met were friendly, and the academic opportunities are great. I’m really glad that I toured the campus and got a better feel for it. The tour was a lot of walking and information, so my family and I took more than a few lounge breaks. We ended the day with Din Tai Fung which was the best.
On Friday, we had a completely free day to just explore the area. The day started off with an early morning run along the water front. It was perfect weather for a run, with just a little mist in the air. It was so beautiful running along the water.
For breakfast, we went to a place in La Jolla called Sugar and Scribe. I heard about it from a travel magazine I was flipping through, and I’m glad we checked it out. It was such a cute spot, with lots of natural light and beautiful pastries which neatly lined the display case. My family and I ordered eggs benedict for breakfast and finished with a small, delicious tart.
After breakfast, we walked around La Jolla a bit and eventually made our way to La Jolla Shores. This was my favorite part of the day. It was so relaxing and serene, looking out onto the ocean. I could’ve spent the whole day just lying on the sand, listening to music, and basking in the sun.
We ended the night by walking along the waterfront and then spontaneously decided to try riding on some motorized scooters. It was kind of fun seeing my parents riding the scooters along the water :) I sped down the dock on full speed, which was pretty daring for me. My parents did not follow.
The next morning, we got up to tour the University of San Diego, which was another great school. Great environment, pretty campus, and the academics seemed strong as well. I honestly don’t know how I’m going to choose a college…there will be lots of of pros and cons lists being made within the next few weeks.
San Diego is truly an incredible city. It has such a great balance of beautiful city and serene beach. I think this city has my heart…who knows, maybe I’ll be back very soon.
It’s starting to really sink in that I’ll be leaving for college in just a few short months. I feel excited, nervous, sad, and happy about it. It’s very contradictory and confusing. But thankfully, I’m still at home with my family and my friends, and I have lots to look forward to in the next few weeks.
