My friend Meera and I went to Carmel for the day. I loved spending time with her, window shopping to our hearts’ content, enjoying some good food, and walking along the beach. Downtown Carmel has a bunch of neat little hidden alleyways which are a lot of fun to explore. My favorite alleyway led to a small outdoor shop that had shelves lined with succulents, scented candles, and paintings. I loved how easy it was to stumble upon a quaint, beautiful courtyard. They’re everywhere!
It was nice to take a day to unwind and enjoy a slower pace of life. People in Carmel are generally not in a hurry. You’ll see lots of people strolling along the main street, perusing trinkets in the many small shops, and taking in the scenic beach.
After walking around the downtown area, Meera showed me and my dad a really beautiful secluded beach called Carmel River State Beach. I was struck by the color of the water, which was a glistening, turquoise-blue. It was serene taking in the beauty of the crashing waves on the shore, the misty fog in the air, and the lush green rolling hills in the distance.
All in all, a really great day.
Here’s a song that I think captures the feel of Carmel. Try listening to it while looking at the pictures:
