winter break in canada
Alberta, Canada
Although it was really cold, especially coming from SoCal, I loved being in Canmore, Alberta. It was beautiful being surrounded by trees, mountains, and homes covered a blanket of white snow. It truly was a winter wonderland. I’m not sure if I’ve ever been to Canmore when it’s been that snowy!
We spent our days walking down the mountain to town, watching movies at night, listening to Christmas music, wandering through the snowy outdoors, eating and chatting in cafes, and skiing. It was a very relaxing time with family!
Toronto, Ontario
Our next Canadian stop was Toronto. We spent our days visiting family and friends, and eating lots of really yummy food!
Birthday Dinner
My aunt, Pera, and I share a birthday on December 30th! I turned 19! The whole family came to celebrate over dinner at my aunt and uncle’s house. My cousin showed me how to open a bottle of wine…I was a little scared that the cap was going to fly out the window. We had a large selection of desserts, which made me very happy. There were chocolate covered cookies, homemade cookies, and a carrot cake! Doesn’t get much better…
We made yummy food
Eataly
I heard about Eataly from some of my family members, and I was eager to check it out. My family took the subway to downtown Toronto, stomachs empty and ready to eat lots of food.
Eataly is a marketplace with a variety of restaurants that serve authentic Italian food. It also includes a food market with many stands and ingredients from Italy. Some of my favorite stands were the pastry, gelato, and pizza stands.
It was a lot of fun circling around the market and trying the different foods. Definitely a must-see for foodies or for people who just like to eat pasta :)
Planta with my cousin, Dayds
My cousin, Adrienne (Dayds), and I had lunch date at a restaurant called Planta. This is not just any restaurant though—Planta’s food is completely plant-based, which means it isn’t made with any animal products. The food was soooo delicious and tasted just as good as food made with animal products. I was very impressed, and I definitely want to go back soon.
My cousin and I shared crispy cauliflower fritters, which were called “crab” cakes and an avocado and beet dip with chips. Each dish was well-prepared, nourishing, and flavorful. It was nice to chat and enjoy a yummy lunch with my cousin Dayds.
