today, i spent the day in sf with my mom and a couple of my friends. in the morning, we went to moma (museum of modern art). we walked around and saw a rene magritte exhibit and lots of different paintings and photography by various artists. one of my favorite exhibits was a short video that reenacted the rfk funeral train. it was filmed so that it felt like you were in the train, watching the observers on the side of the tracks. also, a nice perk was that children and youth (13-18 years old) got free admission.

after moma, we went to tartine bakery. tartine bakery is different from tartine manufactory, which is the restaurant. the bakery is much smaller and only sells baked goods, sandwiches, and drinks. it's a cute little spot, and the smell of butter and sugar travels outside of the bakery all the way down the block. walking inside, my eyes immediately went to the beautiful pastries on the counter. there were coconut cream tarts, chocolate souffle cakes, and shortbread cookies.

if you plan on going, definitely go for the pastries. the bakery sells a variety of sandwiches too. while the bread was good, i found the the actual sandwich a bit too greasy. at least our tarts made up for it. we got a blueberry tart, a frangipane tart, and a lemon bar. my favorite was the frangipane tart, and next time i'll definitely try the banana cream tart and the coconut cream tart.

in the afternoon, we headed over to golden gate park and walked around in the botanical garden. i liked going into the redwood forest because it made me feel like i was plopped in the middle of a camp ground, not in the middle of a city. there were also lots of unestablished little trails that you could explore too. 

all in all, it was a fun-packed day in the city. i fell asleep on the way home.
