Hello! My parents were just in town for my school’s parents weekend, and it was so nice to see them! It was great spending quality time together. My dad made me laugh because he said that he didn’t want to do ANY of the organized Scripps events, so we ended up going off campus (which I was very good with). Getting out of your bubble, whether it’s work or school, does wonders for the soul.

My friend recommended that we visit Newport Beach, and I’m really happy that we did! I love the area of Orange County. It gives you real SoCal vibes with the palm trees, endless sun, and beaches that extend for miles. I feel really lucky to have such easy access to Orange County (at least when my parents are here and we have a car haha).

Newport beach was gorgeous and I loved walking along the bike path right next to the sandy shore. It was pretty crowded, but it made the area feel so lively. Lots of bikers passed by us blasting everything from The Beatles to Ed Sheeran. We made our way down a dock to a real nice lookout spot. We could see lots of surfers and boogie boarders—the waves were perfect for beginners (me). It’s one of those beaches where you can lounge and bask in the sun for hours. A lot of the beaches that I go to in NorCal, like Half Moon Bay and Carmel, are gorgeous, but they’re usually a little too cold to sunbathe on.

While my parents were in town, we met up with some family friends for dinner at this Italian restaurant called Uno Tre Otto. It’s a super quaint, cozy restaurant with a small patio for outdoor seating and a few tables inside too. It’s nestled between other buildings, and it’s very easy to pass by. I’m so glad that parents found it though! The food is absolutely delicious. I could taste the freshness of the ingredients, and all of the flavors were thoughtfully crafted. I savored every bite. Uno Tre Otto is definitely my favorite restaurant in Claremont so far, and it’s up there with one of my favorite restaurants in general.

The atmosphere and the food were great, and the company made it even better. I really enjoyed getting to share a meal, good conversation, and laughs with close friends and family.

Fettunta

Cheesy bread is one of my favorite snacks. This was a little fancier than your average cheesy bread, and it was soooo delicious. I loved the combination of the crispy bread and the gooey cheese.

Katia gobbled this one down :)

Campanelli

This pasta was amazing. The dough was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was buttery and full of fragrant pesto, garlic, and spices. The sprinkle of nuts added a nice texture to the dish.

Local Seasonal Fish

The salmon was cooked perfectly, with crispy skin and a flaky inside. Delish.

Apple Galette

This apple galette was my favorite dessert of the night. The dough was perfectly flaky and buttery. It was also coated in Demerara sugar, which added a nice sweetness and crunch. The apples were cooked perfectly, and were packed with flavor from the cinnamon spice. This is a dessert that makes me feel at home when I eat it.

Strawberry Tart

I loved the combination of the flaky dough, fresh strawberries, and light cream.
