blake restaurant
every time that my family and i go to canmore, we eat at a restaurant called blake. it's up there with one of our new favorites! the restaurant serves a lot of asian inspired dishes that we always end gobbling up quickly. the ambiance is also very nice—it's an open restaurant with lots of natural light that streams through industrial style windows. it's nice to see that there are unique restaurants with amazing food in a small town like canmore.
if you ever find yourself in canmore, be sure to eat at blake. here are some of my recommendations.
spicy tuna poke
i don't handle spice too well, but this tuna poke wasn't too spicy for me. it's a delicate, delicious dish that has the perfect flavor combination of tuna, scallions, teriyaki, and fluffy rice.
charred chop salad
this salad is a perfect choice for a small plate. i don't know what they put into their charred poblano ranch, but whatever it is, i want a whole bottle of it. this salad is not just any other salad; it elevates something that could be very simple and bland into something unique and flavorful.
craft cauliflower
this dish was probably my favorite of the night. you know kraft macaroni and cheese (a.k.a. everyone's favorite childhood food)? this dish is just like eating a warm, gooey spoonful of it, but healthier! the cauliflower is covered in a creamy, rich layer of cheese, and it comes out in a sizzling, hot pan. i've decided that i always want to prepare my cauliflower like this. it's absolutely delicious!
k♥le dumplings
these dumplings were very tasty. they were filled with veggies and tofu, and they paired well with the "green goddess oil." the dumpling wrappers could've been a little softer and crispier, but overall, i was happy with my main dish.
banana brûlée
you'll probably be completely stuffed by the end of your meal, but you know the saying, "there's always room for dessert!" i strongly recommend the banana brûlée. the brûlée is light, fluffy, and creamy. it pairs perfectly with the caramelized bananas and the chopped peanuts. yum.
fun fact: to caramelize bananas, all you need to do is grease a pan with some butter, put the sliced bananas in, and let them sizzle until they brown. there’s no need to add sugar because there’s already natural sugars in the banana.
